The U.S. Department of Agriculture (Department) announced a funding opportunity, the New World Screwworm (NWS) Grand Challenge, an opportunity geared to support preparedness efforts against the threat posed by the New World screwworm, a parasitic pest that can devastate livestock, animal health, and agricultural production.
The Department’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has up to $100 million available to support projects that enhance sterile NWS fly production capacity; develop next-generation traps and detection tools; advance therapeutics, treatments, or control strategies; and improve preparedness and response capabilities nationwide.
Federal, state, local, and academic institutions may apply with proposals that align with USDA’s guidelines. All proposals must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on February 23 and can also be submitted through USDA’s ezFedGrants portal.
