Workers’ Compensation Contingency Bill Held in Assembly 

On Thursday, the full Assembly was scheduled to vote on A-5659, which increases Workers’ Compensation contingency fees, but it was pulled from the agenda.

Assembly Advances Bill that Could Mean Increased Utility Costs 

The Assembly has passed A-4791, which would establish a “Resiliency and Environmental System Investment Charge Program.” The program would allow water and wastewater utilities to recover, outside of their rates, the cost of certain system investments.

Bill Requiring the Use of Cooperative Purchasing Systems Update

Last week we reported that a bill requiring local contracting units to determine and utilize cost-saving practices when procuring goods and services was advancing quickly. The legislation has now stalled.

Bill Addressing Assault at Youth Sports Advances  

On December 7, the Senate Judiciary Committee released A-4471, which would increase penalties for assault and harassment against sports officials and participants at school-or community-sponsored youth sports events.

Stay NJ Taskforce Announced

Woodbridge Mayor John McCormac and Plainfield Mayor Adrian Mapp have been appointed to the Stay New Jersey Task Force, which was established to implement the Stay New Jersey Property Tax Relief Program.

Court Rules NJ Tax Sale Foreclosure Violates Constitution

An appellate panel has found the framework of New Jersey’s Tax Sale Law that establishes confiscation of property owner’s equity violates the Fifth Amendment Takings Clause and has overturned a third-party foreclosure judgment.

Show Off Your City Contest Deadline Feb. 9 

The Annual Show Off Your City Contest is accepting entries through February 9. Municipalities are invited to send in photos of their tourist attractions, downtown areas, economic development initiatives, parks, city halls, community groups, and new projects. 

Entries will be posted on the League’s Facebook page, website, and some will be featured in the April issue of NJ Municipalities, and possibly other issues. The winner will also receive a free League publication of their choice!
