Federal Conference Sessions
This past year, municipalities have received an unprecedented level of direct federal support to combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, replace loss revenue, help their communities, replace sewer and water infrastructure and improve broadband. The sessions listed below will provide you with a better understanding of how to plan, spend and report these funds; upcoming federal issues; and further funding opportunities.
Tuesday, November 16
1:30-2:45 p.m.
Federal Issues–American Rescue Plan and Infrastructure (Room 403). The American Rescue Plan Act State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds go directly to municipalities to replace lost revenue, replace outdated water and sewer pipes, improve broadband connectivity, and support community programs. Congress is considering a multi-year infrastructure package that funds repairs to roads, bridges, and lead pipe replacement. This timely session will help municipal officials develop best practices to identify, apply for, and utilize these funds. It will also provide a “crystal ball” on upcoming changes that municipalities can anticipate and plan for in the near future.
3:30-4:45 p.m.
Access to Economic Recovery Act Funds (Room 304). Join NJEDA leadership for insights into programs created by the Economic Recovery Act. Learn how these programs can help to spur development, drive investment, and create jobs in your community. From small business owners and start-ups to developers, corporations, and municipalities, hear about this holistic suite of resources.
Wednesday, November 17
9:00-10:15 a.m.
Maximizing Federal Aid in Urban Centers (Room 401). Urban municipalities are the backbone of our state. Given this, these cities face a unique set of challenges and opportunities. As local leaders continue to work to improve their communities in light of the coronavirus pandemic, federal aid plays an important factor in funding projects to improve the state’s urban hubs, which ultimately benefits all New Jerseyans. In this session, you will hear from mayors, federal representatives, and experts on the nuts and bolts of how to maximize local and federal partnerships during this critical time.
1:30-2:45 p.m.
Broadband Deployment in the National Infrastructure Bill (Room 404). Mayors and administrators are always looking for funds to help stretch their limited budgets. Although NJ sits between two communications hubs, NYC & Philly, there are many areas in the state, both rural and urban that lack access to broadband, hurting businesses and communities. This panel will explore the challenges facing municipalities that are trying to improve broadband access, and what funding might be available to facilitate those improvements.
