Governor Delivers State of the State Address
Today Governor Murphy delivered his 2021 State of the State Address. Due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions, the speech was pre-recorded in an empty theater.
The Governor’s speech highlighted the foundation he has been building for a stronger and fairer New Jersey–raising the minimum wage; passing earned sick leave and expanding paid family and medical leave; combatting the opioid epidemic; enacting the Economic Incentive Tax Act; and advancing the legalization of recreational adult-use marijuana.
In addition, he noted the opening of six vaccine mega-sites and encouraged residents to visit the State’s Covid Vaccine website to learn about the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine and to pre-register to receive the vaccine.
The Governor also called upon the Legislature to pass legislation giving renters impacted by COVID-19 up to 30 months to make up for back rent, and he expressed willingness to work with the Legislature to enact in-person early voting.
