New Main Street New Jersey Applications Announced

The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) has announced the opening of a new application round for Main Street New Jersey (MSNJ) designations, set to begin on February 1. This initiative aims to admit qualified communities into the MSNJ program, which offers on-site and off-site technical assistance and training in the revitalization and management of historic downtown areas. Communities with the MSNJ designation are also eligible to apply for grants that support physical improvement projects in their designated districts.

To apply for the MSNJ designation applicants must be a recognized 501(c)(3), (c)(4), or (c)(6) organization dedicated to revitalizing a commercial district and supported by a resolution from the host municipality. The application process, guidelines, and criteria are available on the DCA’s website. Applications are accepted via email from February 1 to March 15, 2024, with the evaluation conducted independently by MSNJ staff and various state agencies. The new MSNJ communities will be announced in April 2024.

Applicants must attend one of the free new district application workshops scheduled for January. These mandatory virtual workshops provide essential information for applicants and will be recorded for those unable to attend live. These workshops will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. and Friday, January 26, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
