100% Participation by Municipalities in Latest Opioid Settlement

The nationwide settlement with pharmacy chains CVS, Walgreens, and Walmart, and drug makers Teva Pharmaceuticals and Allergan, is in addition to the settlements reached with drug distributors in 2021 – in which New Jersey also saw full local participation. Because all 21 counties and all 241 municipalities eligible for direct payments agreed to participate in the settlement, the state, county, and eligible municipalities are eligible to receive the maximum amount available from the State’s $508.1 million award under the agreement.

The League worked with the Governor’s and Attorney General’s office to make those eligible municipalities aware of this latest settlement and to offer any assistance to our members as they navigated the participation process. We will continue to be a resource for our members, providing guidance and assistance on how these settlement funds can be most effectively used.
