On March 21 the League hosted a League’s Lunch and Learn to discover the benefits of Age-Friendly Community Practices with representatives from the Department of Human Services, including Janet Sharma, Age-Friendly Englewood, Member of the New Jersey Age-Friendly State Advisory Council; Melissa Chalker, Deputy Division Director, New Jersey Division of Aging Services; and Stacey Callahan, Senior Research Associate, Office of Research & Evaluation, New Jersey Department of Human Services.
The Age-Friendly State Advisory Council was convened in 2021, as a result of Executive Order 227, with a focus on developing recommendations and strategies that will help develop and strengthen key age-friendly features, including compact neighborhoods with diverse housing types; downtowns with homes, shops, restaurants and entertainment close to each other; walkable and well-connected streets; and accessible transportation options. Stakeholders include leaders in planning, transportation, business, the higher education community, and other interested parties.
