On Tuesday, Governor Murphy conditionally vetoed S-1277 which establishes a centralized directory for affordable housing and housing for senior citizens and veterans
The League supported this measure because, in addition to being sound public policy, it requires the Department of Community Affairs to reimburse municipalities for costs in complying with this legislation. In the recommendation for reconsideration, the Governor suggested removing this language as the legislation did not identify a funding source, leaving municipalities to bear the cost.
The Legislature returns after the November elections, and it may be reconsidered for agreement. We will keep you updated if and when that occurs.
