Turning black and white pages green, the Oceanport Borough Hall has put in a book recycling bin next to a clothing drop-off located in its front parking lot.

Town officials cite it as “a simple yet impactful way to support both your community and the environment.” An Instagram post noted that the donation of unwanted books helps reduce waste in landfills, promote the reuse of valuable resources, and make literature more accessible to others.

Oceanport officials also noted how recycling books also conserves the energy and raw materials needed to produce new ones, contributing to a more sustainable future.

A recent article by Alli Trentina, BookDrop Recycling Program Now in Oceanport - Two River Timesquoted Oceanport Borough Administrator Donna Phelps, who noted, “It’s a great opportunity for people to recycle their books and keep the books out of the landfill and share them with other people.”

BookDrop buys books around the nation, including from libraries and nonprofits. They report saving “over 1 million books from the landfill each month by partnering with thrift stores, libraries, and other organizations.”
