Plainfield sets the stage each year for a celebration of house music that also serves as a healthcare information space. Going into its 5th year, the event has a new name, the Lenny Cathcart House Music Festival.

Hosted by the City of Plainfield and sponsored by the Union County Board of County Commissioners in Cedar Brook Park, the new name honors the man who was critical in the founding of the festival. Noted Mayor Adrian Mapp, “I've mentioned that the person who has been instrumental in the formation and the creation of the Plainfield House Music Festival is none other than Lenny Cathcart. The House Music Festival has grown year after year, where we attract well over 10,000 people into the park,” said Mapp. “Because this was the brainchild of Lenny Cathcart, I've decided that we're going to rebrand and rename the Plainfield House Music Festival to…the Lenny Cathcart House Music Festival hosted by the City of Plainfield.”

The House Music Festival, slated for Sept. 20, combines the power of music with a positive health awareness initiative. It draws people from all walks of life seeking a vibrant, energetic atmosphere. The grounds also feature vendors and encounter a diverse lineup of top-tier house music DJs who will keep you grooving for a mesmerizing nine-hour extravaganza as well as a fireworks display. Plainfield officials noted that an informal survey indicated visitors from least seven states flocked to the festival.

Initially dedicated to prostate cancer awareness, the festival broadened its health mission to include information and testing for chronic illnesses that disproportionately impact black and brown communities, such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and hypertension. In addition to offering valuable resources and knowledge, the festival also provides a range of health screenings, including for prostate cancer.

This year, the festival will feature DJ Beloved, DJ Mark Francis, DJ Patti Kane, DJ Roc Anthony, DJ Naeem Johnson, DJ Jihad Muhammad, DJ Soulful Messiah, Ras Anthony Wiggins-MC, and Zaykeya Thomas-ALS Interpreter.
